The Maximum Fighting Championship has announced that Emanuel Newton has been forced to withdraw from his upcoming, April 8th, bout with light-heavyweight champ Ryan Jimmo, due to a shoulder injury. Stepping into replace Newton is Strikeforce veteran Zak Cummings (13-2), who will head into MFC 29 having won three straight fights. The streak includes a first round, submission victory over Rudy Bears at Bellator 26 last August.

“I’m a gamer. I don’t pick and choose easy fights. It would be amazing to come into the MFC and win the title,” Cummings was quoted saying on the promotion’s official site.

“I’m going to get in there and do my thing. I’m excited to be on HDNet and to get the opportunity to show the fans what I can do.”

The April 8th, MFC card will be hosted by the Caesars Casino in Windsor, Ontario, and will be broadcast live on the aforementioned HDNet.

Some of the other bouts scheduled for MFC 29 “Conquer” include Terry Martin vs. welterweight champion Douglas Lima, Hermes Franca vs. Drew Fickett, Marcus Davis vs. Curtis Demarce and Pete Spratt vs. Demi Deeds.
