Just days removed from the memorable opening round of its heavyweight grand-prix, Strikeforce continues to confirm bouts for the promotion’s upcoming February 18th, Challengers event in Cedar Park, Texas. The card, which will be hosted by the Cedar Park Center, will feature the undefeated Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm (15-0) versus veteran lightweight Pat “Bam Bam’’ Healy (25-17) in the main event.
One of the latest additions to the card is a catch-weight bout at 160bs. between Bryan Travers (14-2) and Carlo “Neo’’ Prater (25-10-1). Travers is 4-1 in his last five bouts with his only loss during that stretch coming to the aforementioned Healy. Prater will be looking to rebound from back-to-back losses to Reza Medadi and Drew Fickett.
At welterweight, Erik “Bad’’ Apple (10-2) will face local favorite Ryan Larson (5-2). Apple hasn’t competed since November, 2009, when he was stopped by Bobby Voelker. Larson fought last in August, and was submitted by Derrick Krantz while competing under the King of Kombat banner.
The last bout to be added to this Friday’s card is a 150lbs. catch-weight fight between David “Tarzan’’ Douglas and Austin fan favorite Nick “The Ghost’’ Gonzalez (16-8, 1 NC). Douglas is 4-1 in his last five bouts and is coming off a stoppage win over Dominic Clark in October. Gonzalez is undefeated in three straight bouts and hasn’t fought since August, when he worked his way to a unanimous decision over Tim Snyder.
Friday’s Challengers card will be broadcast on Showtime and will also feature a lightweight bout between Ryan Couture (1-0) and Lee Higgins (2-0).
