One of the sport’s busiest heavyweights, Jeff “The Snowman” Monson (pictured), will once again fight under the Zuffa banner, as Showtime has announced that the 40 year-old-veteran will face rising prospect Daniel Cormier at the upcoming June 18th Strikeforce.
Monson (42-11) will be looking for his fourth win of 2011 when he heads to Dallas to fight Cormier, as the accomplished grappler and BJJ black belt has already scored wins over Lee Mein, Tony Lopez and Maro Perak this year. The former UFC contender is 8-2 in his last ten fights.
The undefeated Cormier (7-0) will be fighting for the first time since January 7th, when he worked his way to a unanimous decision win over Devin Cole at a Strikeforce Challengers event. The decorated wrestler and former Olympic team member has earned wins over veterans like Jason Riley, Tony Johnson Jr. and Soa Palelei since he transitioned into MMA in 2009.
The June 18th Strikeforce event will feature the second half of the promotion’s ongoing heavyweight grand-prix, and will see heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem take on Fabricio Werdum, and Josh Barnett fight Brett Rogers.
The event will be broadcast live on Showtime.
