Yet another notable competitor from the Japanese MMA world has signed with a North American promotion, as Bellator has announced today that former Sengoku Featherweight Champion Marlon Sandro has joined its roster. According to a press release sent out from the promotion, Sandro will compete in Bellator’s upcoming fourth season, but the 33 year-old Brazilian will not participate in the featherweight tournament.

“Marlon Sandro is a phenomenal talent at 145,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney in the official announcement. “Our Featherweight division is absolutely stacked and Sandro pushes that talent pool to an even higher level, I’m thrilled to have him on board.”

Sandro (17-2) will arrive in Bellator having gone 2-1 in 2010. After knocking out Tomonari Kanomata and Masanori Kanehara in March and June respectively, Sandro lost the featherweight belt to Hatsu Hioki in December, who scored a unanimous decision over the Nova Uniao fighter.

No details regarding Sandro’s Bellator debut were announced. The promotion’s fourth season of action is set to begin and March and will be broadcast live on MTV 2.
