Bellator will continue to promote bouts through the upcoming summer months, as the organization has announced that its next featherweight tourney will get underway, June 25th in Hollywood, Florida. As has been the case with all of Bellator’s events thus far in 2011, the card will be broadcast live on MTV 2. (Pictured: Pat Curran (left) battling Eddie Alvarez)
Bellator 46 will feature all four quarterfinal bouts for the tourney, including Marlon Sandro vs. Genair da Silva, Ronnie “Kid Ninja” Mann vs. Adam Schindler, Pat Curran vs. Luis Palomino and Nazareno Malegarie vs. Jacob Devree.
“I am coming to the United States to become a world champion,” said former Sengoku champion Marlon Sandro in the official announcement. “I see Bellator as the place to really make a name for myself here in the U.S. I'm here to put on great fights, entertain the fans, and fight my way to the Bellator Featherweight World Championship.”
"I've fought at featherweight for most of my career, so I'm really excited to get back to a weight class where I can really do some damage," said Curran, who won the promotion’s lightweight tourney before losing to champion Eddie Alvarez in April. "I had some great results as a lightweight, but I'm really going to make some noise in this summer featherweight tournament."
The undercard for Bellator 46 will feature a middleweight tilt between Josh Samman and Mike “El Gringo Diablo” Bernhard, as well as heavyweight prospect Tony Johnson Jr., who has yet to have an opponent confirmed. Bellator Season 3 tournament vets Jessica “Jag” Aguilar and Carla Esparza are also scheduled to compete.
The June 25th event will be hosted by the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
