By FCF Staff; Bellator Fighting Championship has announced the line-up for the promotion’s upcoming October 21st card, which will take place at The Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The card will be headlined by a non-title “superfight” between the promotion’s lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez (20-2) and UFC vet Roger Huerta (21-4-1).
Alvarez has fought just once in 2010; at Bellator 17 in May, he tapped out Josh Neer in the second round in a non-title affair. Alvarez has won five straight heading into the bout, and has not lost since he was tapped out by current Dream champion Shinya Aoki on New Year’s Eve, 2008.
Huerta is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Pat Curran in May, after winning his Bellator debut in April, when he submitted Chad Hinton. Curran went on to win the Bellator lightweight tourney and a title shot, but was forced to withdraw from his bout with Alvarez due to injury.
Bellator 33 will also feature a welterweight title fight between champion Lyman Good and season two, tournament winner, Ben Askren. The undefeated Good (10-0) has yet to fight in 2010 after winning the welterweight tourney last year.
Askren worked his way to victories over Ryan Thomas (twice) and most recently Dan Hornbuckle, in Bellator competition, to extend the accomplished collegiate wrestler’s MMA record to 6-0.
Other bouts that have been confirmed for Bellator 33 include Wilson Reis vs. Deividas Taurosevicius, Tim Carpenter vs. Jamal “The Suit” Patterson, Tuan Pham vs. Nick Cottone, Eduard Guedes vs. Chris "The Story" Liguori, Lester Caslow vs. Kenny “The Tooth Fairy” Foster, and Lewis Cassner vs. Francis Evans.
Bellator 33 will be televised live on Fox Sports Net.
