By FCF Staff Strikeforce has announced that a lightweight tilt between Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro and Justin Wilcox will headline the promotion’s upcoming November 9th, Challengers event in Jackson, Mississippi. Strikeforce has also confirmed that lightweight Ryan Couture will compete on the card; however, no opponent has yet been named.
Ribeiro (20-4) (pictured left) will be looking to end a two fight losing streak, as the renowned jiu-jitsu practitioner has dropped back-to-back fights to Shinya Aoki and most recently Lyle Beerbohm. Ribeiro’s last win came in April, 2009, when he stopped Katsuhiko Nagata while competing under the Dream banner.
Wilcox (9-3) heads into the bout having won four straight fights. At Strikeforce’s Challengers 7 card in March, the accomplished wrestler worked his way to a Unanimous Decision win over Shamar Bailey. Wilcox hasn’t lost since September, 2008, when he was submitted by Mitsuhiro Ishida at Strikeforce’s second Playboy Mansion event.
The November 9th event, which will be hosted by the Jackson Convention Center, will be broadcast live on Showtime.
