Maximum Fighting Championship has announced that a lightweight bout between UFC veterans Drew Fickett and Hermes Franca, will headline the promotion’s upcoming June 10th, “Up Close & Personal” event. The bout will be contested for the vacant MFC lightweight championship.
After heading to Windsor, Ontario for its last event, the promotion will return to Edmonton, Alberta for MFC 30, which will take place at the city’s Mayfield Conference Center.
“The passion that our longtime fans have is truly something special and that sense of loyalty made me want to do another show in Edmonton,” MFC owner Mark Pavelich was quoted saying in the official announcement. “Putting this event together, I became instantly as excited about what’s in store for MFC 30 as I was for MFC 29 at Caesars Windsor. I think it will be an epic night.”
Fickett (41-13) made his MFC debut in February and tapped out Matt Veach with a first round, armbar. The veteran has now won five straight, a streak which includes winning Shine Fight’s lightweight grand-prix last year.
Franca (21-11) is also coming off a successful MFC debut, as the veteran knocked out Robert Washington in the second round last month, at the organization’s aforementioned “Conquer” event in Windsor. In Franca’s only other 2011 appearance, he tapped out Jorge Sarat at a G-Force Fights card in February.
Other bouts that have been confirmed for MFC 30 include a lightweight tilt between UFC vet Marcus Davis (18-8) and Richie Whitson (11-1), and at welterweight, Sheldon Westcott (4-1-1) will rematch Thomas “Wildman” Denny (27-18-1).
MFC 30 will be broadcast live on HDNet.
