Amidst reports that Fedor Emelianenko could return to action sometime this coming July or August, Strikeforce official Michael Afromowitz has confirmed with FCF, that indeed the promotion and Fedor's management are in negotiations regarding a summer fight. The news comes just days after it was announced that Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC, has purchased Strikeforce.
Following Emelianenko’s (31-3) stoppage loss to Antonio Silva in February, which was the former Pride champion’s second in a row, speculation was rampant as to whether the legendary fighter would fight again. After Fedor hinted immediately after the bout that his retirement may be imminent, reports surfaced just days after, that the Russian star would fight again.
CEO Scott Coker has stated publicly that the 34 year-old Fedor could compete for an alternate position in the promotion’s ongoing heavyweight grand-prix.
